Social Engineering and the Morass of Modern Liberalism
Humankind has always tried to do things the ways in which he thinks best, with progressive liberalism as the keystone of their philosophy of life. However, the prevalence of the Word of God, along with its application by individuals specifically and by society at large, is the cornerstone of an enlightened and progressive society. This can’t be emphasized enough! Anyone who has an open mind and seeks truth will come to this conclusion because history itself is the strongest proof of that fact. This has been the case ever since Adam betrayed the authority and responsibility he was given by God Himself.
Ps 111:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. (NKJV)
Before The Fall, mankind was strong, wise and safe; infused with the power of God to live a life in submission to His Word and wisdom. This wisdom was manifested to Adam through His Word (don’t eat of ‘that’ tree! Genesis 2:16-17), and as long as Adam submitted himself there was power to live a life of harmony and peace. However, he made a choice and we have – each of us – paid a terrible price ever since that time.
After The Fall, mankind was left to obey or rebel, because God made Man as a free moral agent. Since then people have consistently chosen to do things their own way and limited themselves through their faulty ability to try and figure things out on their own. Divorced (by personal choice!) from God’s life and wisdom, the world was quickly plunged into darkness. It began with Adam, swiftly followed by his son Cain, and culminated in the near-total rebellion of the world. I say near-total because one man, Noah, submitted himself to God’s Word (Gen 6:8-22). THAT is why he found grace in God’s sight. Noah followed God’s Word to build an ark, and as a result of his obedience, God enabled the lineage of man to continue.
After The Flood, mankind rapidly descended into venality in trying to gain what was lost. False religions, slavery, murder and the like all result from the disobedience of a life separated from God’s Word. Once again God found a man, Abraham, who was willing to follow His Word instead of his own thoughts and opinions (Gal 3:6). Through his obedience, the nation of Israel was formed, and through that nation, the Abrahamic Covenant was assured by the establishment of Judaism and the other Scriptures of the Old Testament. As Israel obeyed the Word of God they prospered and grew. Conversely, as they disobeyed the Word they fell into reproach and eventual slavery – scattered among the nations of the world.
When the time was right God sent another Man (His own Son Jesus, Galatians 4:4-5) to show us how we could again reclaim the place lost to us by the betrayal of Adam. By simple acts of faith in obedience to His Word, God provides us a means to enjoy His wisdom, with all the benefits associated with it! Beginning with responding to His Word by accepting Christ as our Lord, we can again enjoy a life of strength, wisdom, and safety. When Man believes and proclaims God’s Word (as in the first century of the United States) the insight it provides leads toward the advancement of the human condition and justice for all who are exposed to it. When the Word of God is restricted (as in the Dark Ages), mankind once again devolves into the self-destructive and rebellious individuals we are. This pattern has obviously manifested itself when looking at western society’s decline during the past fifty years.
Social engineering is Mankind’s feeble attempt, through humanistic thinking and applying humanistic theories alone, to address the many problems faced by society. The mere act of rejecting consideration for the Word of God is a sure way to doom any plan to failure, and so it is today. People want to have peace without including the Prince of Peace. People want to have justice without asking The Judge of all the earth what He would have us do. Society goes about trying to establish their own right way of doing things, and instead just make situations worse. Abortion and homosexual ‘equal rights’ are just symptoms of a world devoid of wisdom. That situation will never change until individuals commit themselves to learning, and implementing, God’s Word in their daily lives.
