Dangerous Design: The Good and Bad of Advancing the Intelligent Design Agenda

There seems to be a growing presence and/or acceptance of the Theory of Intelligent Design in campuses, laboratories and in the general public consciousness all across this nation. I believe this is the result of a growing skepticism with Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection – at least in the way evolutionists believe in it – as a reasonable explanation for the origin of life. People of faith (including myself) seem to think that the growing influence of Intelligent Design is a good thing, but there is a good and bad side to blindly accepting and promoting Intelligent Design.

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (NKJV)

The good thing about ID (Intelligent Design) is that it unashamedly and scientifically addresses the many problems associated with evolution, offering an alternative viable explanation for the origin of life. The teaching of evolution (in a molecules-to-man way) has, as a rule, become firmly entrenched in the current scientific community. Any mention of creationism is immediately rejected as ‘magic,’ ‘religious indoctrination’ or with some similar disclaimer. ‘How can any scientific and reasonable person believe in creationism?’ is often the mantra of choice. The end result is that no amount of evidence – regardless of how pertinent or factual – is taken seriously in most of the so-called scientific community. The fact is that there is a TREMENDOUS amount of evidence that both disproves Darwin and at the same time lends credence to Creationism. Because of these valid questions many people who don’t buy into Darwin’s Theory will open themselves up to ID. The fact that ID gets people to open their minds to true scientific principles and methods (regardless of which ‘side’ you are on) when considering the origin of life is a big plus! So then, the fact that ID gets people to open their thoughts to facts and opinions outside of the dogma of Darwinian thought is a good thing. By presenting FACTS, without the myriad of assumptions and misapplied principles required by evolutionists, truth has the opportunity to take hold in an open mind and free another slave from the ‘fake science’ which is evolution. This is a good thing, right? So Mr. Stockman, what’s the problem then?

The problem is that faith in a Creator is not the end of the search. Throughout recorded history most of mankind has always believed in a Creator. The ancient Greeks did. The Assyrians did. So did the Egyptians, Maori, Mesopotamians, Akkadians, Toltecs, Aryans, Inca, Romans, etc., etc., etc. They ALL believed in creation and, by default, a Creator (or creators). At the same time some of the most hideous practices ever recorded were performed in the name of the god/gods of these peoples. The advent of the nation of Israel, through the lineage of Abraham, introduced a radical concept to the world. This introduction was to the One True God. Through this One God came the Abrahamic Covenant – manifested as the Torah, the Prophets, and the other Scriptures which comprise the Old Testament. In the world of that time it was a truly radical idea! Then through this Covenant, and because of the love God has for a fallen race, He introduced us to His Son – Jesus Christ. The resulting life, atoning death, burial and resurrection of that One Man, God has established a new and better way. This is expounded upon within the New Testament, and therein lays the danger. The advancement of Intelligent Design, without the logical inclusion of the One True Creator, will only take us so far. ANYONE can believe in a god (even the devil believes, James 2:19), but which god will mankind believe in? THAT makes all the difference! In fact, it will make a tremendous difference as this struggle comes into its final phases.

Mankind as a whole simply rejects God. Why? The excuses are endless, but the result is the same. Once someone has rejected the truth then anything else is acceptable as an alternative. The result of that misplaced belief will be why people accept the Antichrist. This will become more evident as time goes by. How is that so? As people start to realize the inane nature of evolution they will begin to acknowledge creationism, but most will reject the Creator. If you reject the Truth, then anything else is fair game, right? That is the danger of a blind push for ID, without acknowledging the One True God. But for now ID’s supremacy over evolution is a good thing; we just have to make sure we fill the evolution-void with the knowledge of Christ.

A son and servant of the King.
